How we work with Augusta University NP students

Seven steps from your first message to the last clinical day

The order is the same for every track and certificate. What changes is the course, its patients, hours and term, so each step starts from your Augusta University course number.

1. You name the courseSend the five details in the next section, plus any leads you already have.
2. We read the course as faculty willThe catalog sets each practice course's patient focus; the plans of study set its hours, 180 for Practice I and II and 240 for Practice III and NURS 9192. A summer term squeezes 180 hours into 10 or 11 weeks, so we note the term too.
3. We search near your homeSolo and group practices, federally qualified health centers and hospital-owned clinics within a drive you can manage, anywhere in Georgia or South Carolina, for a preceptor whose panel matches the course.
4. We vet before you hear a nameLicense, Georgia APRN authorization where needed, the delegating physician or South Carolina practice agreement, open days, willingness to host a faculty visit and the site's onboarding rules.
5. You chooseYou get the preceptor, site, schedule and any open questions in writing, and nothing moves until you say yes.
6. We build the paperworkEverything your course faculty request about the preceptor and site, plus what the clinic needs from you, arrives complete and early.
7. We stay on callWe check in through the term, and if the preceptor steps away, your advisor reopens the search for the same course at once.

Matching the preceptor to the course, not just the specialty

A family nurse practitioner is not automatically right for every FNP course. NURS 8312 centers on adults in primary care, NURS 8315 on infants, children and adolescents, and NURS 8318 on older adults and their families, so one practice may suit all three terms or only one; the FNP practice courses guide has the detail.

AGACNP courses need acute care and PNP courses pediatric primary care. PMHNP Practice II and III each call for a child or adolescent group, an adult psychotherapy group and supervision sessions, as the PMHNP course guide explains. Paperwork for your faculty and the clinical site

Augusta University's NP preceptor forms are not posted publicly, so we start from what your course faculty hand you: preceptor license and certification, practice setting and patient mix, the site's address and your planned days. Faculty get a file they can review quickly and use to plan a visit.

Site documents are yours to sign and ours to organize. CON16 names several a rotation may need, such as a confidentiality agreement, a policy acknowledgment and the Student Applied Learning Experience Agreement, and sites can add their own at your expense.

Compliance keeps its own clock. The immunization form is due six weeks ahead of the semester under CON14 but two weeks ahead on the Student Health form, so we plan to the earlier date. The compliance checklist covers the rest, and your hours are logged in a paid College of Nursing tracking system whose name is not public.

Planning four courses as one sequence

Each Augusta University NP track runs four clinical courses of 180, 180, 240 and 240 hours, finishing with NURS 9192 in the last spring of the full-time plan. We plan the next course while you are still in the current one, so the fall Practice III search is underway during summer Practice II. The 840-hour breakdown gives the term-by-term view.

Hospital-based courses need the longest lead. Wellstar's fall deadline for advanced practice students is June 30, and Atrium Health Floyd asks for at least three months, so AGACNP students in particular should start early. To begin, send your track and next course through the request form.
